The Alembic

New Role: Event Coordinator

About Us

Founded in 2022, The Berkeley Alembic Foundation is a nonprofit space hosting classes, workshops, and events that pertain to movement, meditation, neuroscience, psychedelic integration, and creativity, and further encouraging the development of community bridging those interest areas. Drawing from ancient traditions and contemporary protocols, the space offers a wide range of skillful means for exploring, integrating, and transforming our felt engagement with the world and the mystery of our own consciousness.

The Alembic is also a vibe. Against the rigid leanings and groupthink of many spiritual and wellness communities, the Alembic is fostering an organic and diverse community of open-minded and open-hearted practitioners committed to curiosity, discernment, mutual discovery, and play.

Because this role is new, there is a lot of potential for growth and individuation in this position. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, self-motivated, ready to solve problems on the fly, and excited about helping to create something from the ground up. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated and mission-driven professional to assume a pivotal role in the development and evolution of a brand new cultural organization.

About the Event Coordinator

Events are at the heart of the Alembic; from cacao ceremonies to zen meditation to movement classes to metta dance parties, we deliver a wide-range of spiritual practices to our community through one-off and recurring events.

We are looking for a full-time Event Coordinator to join us and take on the management of planning, coordinating and delivering our events program and our rentals.

This is a full-on job and we are looking for someone who is excited about taking on the challenge of overseeing and executing a very busy schedule, packed full of unique and interesting events.

We’re a small team that works in a self-managing way, so you will be expected to be able to hit the ground running. You’ll have an eye for detail as well as a capacity to hold the big picture of several big events each month. You’ll be organized and efficient behind the scenes, while also being able to build rapport with teachers and be a personable front-of-house member of the team who enjoys interacting with our practitioners. You will be confident learning new technical skills – we want someone who we can train to set up sound and other technical logistics for an event.

A couple of the biggest perqs of working with us are that you get to meet and interact with lots of different teachers from a wide-range of traditions and that you can attend any Alembic event for free. Ideally, meditation or spiritual practice will be among the top priorities in your life.

We like to recruit people who are able to contribute to the growth of the organization and we like to do the same in return – there will be flexibility for the role to grow alongside you.

The role requires a lot of evening and weekend work (this is when many of our events are held) so it will suit someone who isn’t looking for a typical 9-5.

We want someone who is excited about working at the heart of a world-leading bodymind center and sees this as an opportunity to grow alongside us.
