Soulful flow is a robust vinyasa yoga class that brings balance to the body, mind and spirit. Anne-René has always been drawn to the spiritual side of life and yoga. This influences her movement meditations that are physically challenging and inspiring to the heart. Her class intertwines asana, breath, awareness, attention to transition and experiencing a personal connection to the movement that opens the door for a meditative flow to wake you up. Hand mudras, chanting, inspired readings, and music are incorporated into the class.
Anne-René Petrarca is a dance artist, Alexander Technique teacher and the artistic director of Sculpted Motion. She began her yoga studies back in New York City in the 1990's. In 2008 she received her Vinyasa yoga teaching certification from the White Lotus Foundation. She is inspired and influenced by her many teachers and studios: Ty Landrum, Sara Baird, Erin Dudley, Keith Borden, Cindi Lee's Om Yoga Center, Laughing Lotus Yoga, and the anatomical teachings of Irene Dowd and Leslie Kaminoff. Other influences are Krishnamurti, Ram Das, Kundalini yoga, Gaga, and Gyrotonic.
"I have always expressed myself through movement. I find inspiration in watching the sky, feeling the sun on my skin and the wonderment of the night sky. Trees are amazing, animals are graceful, poetry can bring me to my knees. I find comfort in the resiliency of the human spirit and kind words from my friends. There is a fullness and flow to life that I know exist and I find comfort in knowing that I am a work in progress flowing toward it."

Waking Up in t…
Waking Up in the Middle of Everything, with Zachary Smith
September 4, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/waking-up-in-the-middle-of-everything-2416439
The Zen School, as passed down to us from China via Japan, takes a unique view on the possibility of living an exemplary life in the here-and-now that is awake, alive, and completely human, as well as embodying the vows that underlie all Mahayana Buddhist schools. In this ongoing class we will study the practices and the accompanying conceptual frameworks that are, essentially, the mind and body of Zen.
More specifically, we will engage in actual Zen meditative practice, both sitting and walking, with particular attention to the details and the appropriate amount of guidance. In a series of talks, we will also review the classical literature of Zen, including the Song Dynasty koan collections and the writings of Japanese Soto Zen founder Eihei Dogen. There will be plenty of opportunity for dialog, group discussion, and explanation.
Anshi Zachary Smith
Anshi Daigi Zachary Smith has been practicing Zen since 1993. He took jukai (lay ordination) in 1995, was shuso (Head Student) in 2007, ordained as a Zen priest in 2014 and received Dharma Transmission on April 17, 2019, all with former abbot and Senior Dharma Teacher Ryushin Paul Haller. He currently directs North Mountain Zendo, a zazenkai (sitting) group in North Beach and is a regular and frequent teacher at SFZC's City Center.
In addition to his involvement with Zen, Zachary is a husband, a father of four, a (mostly retired) engineer, a musician, a bike fanatic, and an avid but mediocre poet. He may be the only person in the history of Zen in the West to have interrupted a residential practice period to tour with a rock band.

About the teacher:
Hi my name is Emily Fesler-Young!
Yoga found me in the fall of 2011, when I attended my first hot yoga class at the studio I would later go on to complete a 200 hr YTT certification, Yoga State in Lansing, Michigan. My teacher training was rooted in Hot Vinyasa and incorporated Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Tantric methodologies. In 2014, I began teaching in-studio classes. I continuously draw on Hatha and Yin styles in my teaching, as well as incorporating other elements of the 8-limbs of yoga to shape my class philosophy. As I have traveled and grown with teachers and students all over the world, my appreciation for practices centered on devotion, acceptance, and love has grown. Apart from teaching, I co-own a wellness-based business with my Husband and Brother-in-law centered on sharing mindful events and products to the SF Bay Area, and beyond. I am a seasoned traveler with a love for nature, people, and culture.

September 6, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Details & Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/build-a-personal-meditation-practice-2517859
Shamatha meditation is an essential and time-honored technique used to cultivate a mixture of serenity and concentration. This short course will help you develop your own personal shamatha practice, which you can tailor to your own meditation goals.
While drop-ins are allowed, your participation in all four classes is strongly encouraged, since each class will build directly on techniques introduced in prior classes. Moreover, you will get the most out of this class if you commit to at least 15 minutes (25 - 30 is even better) of home practice each day while the course is in session.
This class is suitable for complete beginners, those who have been practicing with an app, and experienced meditators looking to brush up on their shamatha or recharge their practice.
This course is offered in-person only and will not be recorded or streamed.

Psychedelic Buddhism: A User's Guide to Traditions, Symbols, and Ceremonies
September 8, 2023 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
By donation. Claim a spot here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/psychedelic-buddhism-a-users-guide-to-traditions-symbols-and-ceremonies-tickets-698505507777
In this book talk, Lama Mike Crowley presents techniques for Buddhists who wish to incorporate psychedelics into their practice as well as for psychonauts who are interested in the maps of inner space provided by Buddhism. The author details how psychedelics have led to spontaneous awakening experiences, such as “Indra’s net” and universal voidness, that were once thought to be available only to advanced meditators. He explores the use of psychedelics, such as LSD and psilocybin mushrooms, in a Buddhist context, sharing the kind of spiritual experiences and benefits that can be gained with each. The author also looks at the use of psychedelics encoded in Vedic and Buddhist scriptures, particularly in the Vajrayāna tradition, from the Middle Ages until the present day.
Lama Mike Crowley met a Tibetan lama, Lama Radha Chime Rinpoche, in London when he was 18 years old. He became Lama Chime’s first student and has continued to study with him to the present day. He took “refuge” and the five Pansil vows on May 1, 1970, and, after much study and meditation, was ordained as a lama on January 1, 1988. He is the founder of Amrita Dzong, an American extension of his teacher’s group, and a member of the advisory board of the national Psychedelic Sangha. The author of Secret Drugs of Buddhism, he lives in northern California.

Christopher “Doc” Kelley received a PhD in Religion from Columbia University where he studied Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with Robert A. F. Thurman. The Four Immea…
The Four Immeasurables, with Jenny Terbell
September 11, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Details & Registration:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/700323655907
There are many good reasons why our hearts close. Experiencing suffering, as we all do, can cause us to constrict, to shorten our breath, to tighten our ribcage, to protect our hearts. Most of this happens inside of us involuntarily in the face of life’s heartbreaks. And if all this weren’t enough, the demands of modern life can keep us moving so quickly that we forget that we carry within us the luminous heart of enlightenment, what the Tibetan Buddhist tradition calls the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel.
So what do we do? The Buddha taught that the path to meeting and transforming our suffering begins with cultivating an open heart. He also pointed out a way to do this—through practicing the Four Immeasurables, also known as the Four Boundless Qualities of Loving Kindness, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy, and Equanimity.
These four states of being—kindness, compassion, open-hearted joy, and stable calm—are just as relevant today as they were 2500 years ago, and deeply needed. Because the heart won’t simply open on command, we develop a spiritual practice that helps us nurture and cultivate its immense power and beautiful qualities. In time, little by little, we come to feel and know that closing our hearts is not the only option available to us. Instead, we feel the strength and joy that comes in awakening the full depths of our hearts for the benefit of all beings, including ourselves. This is the Heart of Enlightenment.
Join us for this four-session series in which we will explore and work experientially with each of the Four Immeasurables through Tibetan Buddhist meditation, breathwork, community discussion, personal reflection, and deep rest. All are welcome, new and experienced practitioners alike, especially those who are new to meditation or Buddhism. The group will be committing to a daily meditation practice for our month together as well as a willingness to be in community with this work.
The Alembic offers all meditation-based classes on a donation basis, with the aim of keeping the dharma accessible. Suggested donation is $30 per class and $100 for the full course. Sliding scale options and scholarships available upon request. No one turned away for lack of funds. Classes will be held at the Alembic with the option of streaming them from home. Participants must register for the link to the live class stream.
Jenny Terbell is a Vajrayana Buddhist practitioner, apprentice teacher for Tara Mandala, and founder of Meditate Like A Mother.
She began studying Tibetan Buddhism fourteen years ago with her teacher Lama Tsultrim Allione and is a Kapala 5 graduate of Magyu: The Mother Lineage. She is a certified Feeding Your Demons facilitator, Kundalini yoga instructor, breathwork teacher, and trauma-informed somatic practitioner. She offers individual and group sessions that incorporate a variety of disciplines which lead to deeper embodiment and trust in the healing power and innate wisdom of the sacred feminine.
Jenny holds a BA in English Literature from Stanford University and an MFA in Creative Writing from NYU. Before becoming a mother, she taught writing for ten years at New York University. She lives with her partner and her two children on the unceded Ohlone land of San Francisco.

Underbelly: Th…
Underbelly: The Art of Slowing Down
September 11, 2023 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Berkeley Alembic, 2820 Seventh St, Berkeley, CA 94710, USA
Details and Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/underbelly-the-art-of-slowing-down-2335099
Underbelly is a non-verbal somatic practice (freeform movement meditation) where we reclaim our slow in a fast and overwhelming world. Our dominant culture survives on speed, which keeps problematic and oppressive structures in place at the devastating cost of our well-being and planetary health. Underbelly is a somatic response to the loss of slowness in an increasingly urgent world drowning in climate collapse, AI threat, technological addiction, diseased capitalism and polarization, as well as historical nervous system trauma from continuing racism, colonialism, and patriarchy. It’s time to dismantle the hurry and be in conversation with the present moment.
This practice helps us explore the art of slowing down with ourselves, each other, and our current environment. There is space to metabolize our emotions, strengthen empathy and intuition, and develop an intimate relationship with our bodies and nature. We practice being in the questions themselves- listening and yielding to the intelligence of life without pushing, controlling, or fixing. Our individuation and togetherness are felt in a group field—deepening our presence and attunement with one another, co-regulating our nervous systems, being witnessed, held, considered, and noticed exactly as we are. We meet ourselves AS IS, without reaching for more or escaping/transcending reality. We re-learn what it is to be relational instead of transactional. To commune instead of consume. To be of service instead of self-serving. To rest back into the vastness and wildness of the natural world, releasing the tight circuits of programming, conditioning, and linearity we've known for so long. Spend quality time with your body, breath, and being. Voyage beneath the surface of our fast culture, and dive into a slow sanctuary for unearthing what is alive, tender, and honest for you in every moment.
This experience is not a solution, method, workshop or teaching of tools. It is not a business, ceremony, ecstatic dance, or dance class. It is a somatic gathering space that supports nervous system co-regulation, ample rest, and radical self/community care.

He fell in love with Relatefulness (then called Circling) in 2018 and has done thousands of hours, countless trainings, and has practiced Relatefulness all around the world. He is constantly amazed by the power of this simple practice to teach him new things, surprise him, and often kick his ass. Other passions of his are volunteering as an EMT for festivals and burns, exploring consciousness in all its forms, ecstatic dance, immersing himself in bodies of water from bath tubs to oceans, and long conversations about the heart of things.
Brian holds a BSc in Computer Science. He does Presence-based Coaching and facilitates Relatefulness at Relateful.com
Josh Kelly is an attachment repair coach and psychology student at CIIS. He has hundreds of hours of Circling experience, including two SAS Circling facilitator trainings in Austin, TX. His non-Circling meditation experience includes retreats with teachers in the Spirit Rock lineage, the Burmese lineage of U. Pandita Sayadaw, and a 2-month silent retreat at Dharma Treasure in Arizona. He now practices Tibetan Dzogchen as a student of Dustin DiPerna in the lineage of Daniel P. Brown. Soulful Flow - Vinyasa Yoga with Anne Rene (Luna)
September 16, 2023 9:30 am - 10:45 am
Details and registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/yoga-at-alembic-1106959

Alligator Liza…
Alligator Lizards in the Air: Integration Through Creative Expression
September 16, 2023 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Berkeley Alembic, 2820 Seventh St, Berkeley, CA 94710, USA
Details and Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alligator-lizards-in-the-air-integration-through-creative-expression-tickets-707812174267
Creative expression is a way to integrate phenomenon and visions experienced in altered states of consciousness, whether they be meditative or entheogenic in nature. From the very first forms of mark-making to the caves of Lascaux to the works of Pablo Amaringo and Alex Grey, humanity has sought to understand our internal landscapes through visual expression.
Alligator Lizards in the Air: Healing and Integration through Creative Expression, is a once a month chance to bring these experiences to life through two dimensional mark making.
Art mediums from paint to colored pencils, crayons to markers, will be available for everyone to use along with paper and canvas. Krisztina Lazar will be your visionary guide in creativity and will help you realize your experience before your eyes. No art background needed for this class. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to explore.
Krisztina Lazar is a visionary artist primarily working in oil paint, watercolor and drawing. She is a Mische Technique lineage holder, a mixture of oil and egg tempera painting invented during the Dutch Renaissance and revolutionized by modern master, Ernst Fuchs. This technique creates an opalescent under painting that the colors are then glazed over, rendering each painting out of light rather than shadow, bringing the images to life with fractal clarity.
Utilizing this transformative style that she learned from visionary pioneer, Brigid Marlin, her current body of work explores painting a hybrid of Mische and Alla Prima to render hyperealistic sacred art. With these two techniques combined, Krisztina creates images of Pop Shamanism, portals and visions that speak to today’s cultural climate of the occult, magic, fantasy, psychedelics, meditation, pop, nostalgia, and the environment movement.
Originally from Cleveland, OH, she completed her BFA at Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 and her MFA graduate degree in 2011 at the San Francisco Art Institute New Genres department. Her paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the United States and Europe, most notably at the H.R. Geiger museum in Gruyere, Switzerland. She teaches her unique styles of painting to many students in group and private settings. Her work has been featured in multiple articles, galleries and book publications. She currently lives and works in Northern California.

Cacao • Breath…
Cacao • Breath + Sound: One Light Tribe
September 17, 2023 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Registration & Details
Cacao • Breath + Sound
Join us for a LIVE and in-person journey with One Light Tribe, ejé and the cacao spirit for a live session with movement, holotropic breathwork and sound healing. The journey is led by Isa and Ari, accompanied by ejé with a live DJ set during the breathwork.
Cacao contains the neurotransmitters serotonin, tryptophan and dopamine. These assist with feelings of well-being, can combat stress and anxiety, and contribute to motivation. Cacao also contains the neuromodulator phenylethylamine (PEA) which helps the body create feelings of excitement and euphoria. Cacao is one of the highest sources of antioxidants and magnesium, is extremely beneficial to heart health, and helps lower blood pressure.
When we combine cacao with powerful breathwork, chanting, and sound healing, we can achieve a sense of calm in the mind, deep connection through an open heart, and witness energy flowing through and around the body.
If you are experiencing serious health challenges or are on high levels of antidepressants, please message us in advance to discuss whether this type of journey is safe for you or how we can accommodate your needs.
We ask you to arrive by 1:00 pm sharp so we can begin by drinking cacao together. We will lead you in warm up movements and a session of powerful breathing with loud music, a short meditation, and then a surrender to sound. Hopefully you will leave feeling energized but also quite relaxed in the body.
Please wear comfortable clothing for sitting and moving. Also please bring a water bottle and blindfold to cover the eyes. Yoga mats and bolsters/blankets will be provided.
One Light Tribe is a healing community founded by Isabel Cali in the Bay Area in 2013, and led by Isabel and her husband Ari. The community was formed around plant medicine after Isa’s many deep journeys with plant medicine to the Amazon beginning in 2007, and continued studies with the plants and indigenous healers today. OLT’s mission is to assist all those that come to look deep within to find the root of dis-ease, to create a safe space for healing along with the plant medicine spirits. In turn to fully accept, take responsibility for and embrace the ‘self’, to live life in liberation, true purpose and oneness. To tune back to the nature that we are.
Cacao is a heart medicine and when combined with powerful breathwork and sound, it can assist one in releasing old patterns and emotions and drop into the heart space. During the cacao journey we are assisted by our dear ejé, who has been working with the medicines and sounds along with us for some years. He will be leading the live DJ set during the breathwork.
Isa and Ari currently own and run Sacha, a retreat center on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, where they live part of the year when they are not in California. They hold healing retreats and cacao gatherings year-round.

The Four Immea…
The Four Immeasurables, with Jenny Terbell
September 18, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

We are discovering what it's like when we relate with more truth and more love.
Parking is free.
Doors close at 6:50 sharp. This event usually sells out — please register to reserve your spot!
Tickets are sliding scale, $10-$25, suggested donation is $15
About your facilitators:
Brian is an Uruguayan-Israeli ex-software engineer that has dedicated his life to growth, learning and exploration of what-is.
Brown. Professionally, Josh is interested in practices that increase well-being, remove blocks to prosocial collaborative behaviors, and cultivate wisdom.

Cultivating C…
Cultivating Creativity: A Workshop for Personal Transformation
September 21, 2023 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Cultivating Creativity: A Workshop for Personal Transformation
Would you like to know yourself as a vibrant, creative person? Creativity requires courage, commitment, and compassion to seed, sprout, and bloom. You don’t need a lightning-bolt psychedelic journey, a fancy retreat, or the latest biohack to get these traits: they can be cultivated with a variety of simple, and ancient, practices that train subtle attention.
“Cultivating Creativity” is a serial workshop designed to help you meet the version of your Self who is a satisfied creative being, and to learn ways to transmute the chaos of doubt into a unique, peaceful container of self-trust. Together, we’ll use updated medieval-mystical contemplative practices to draw out more awareness from the processing mechanism of the Self, and to make deep contact with a reliable well of insight that reconnects you with your trust in the flow of life.
Expect a combination of reading, writing, contemplative spiritual exercises, and discussion. Group ritual practices may include guided visualization, Tarot, poetry, and other imagination-based modes of understanding and expression, plus light movement and energy play to integrate and ground the evening’s transformations.
Please bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and a few small items of personal significance to decorate a temporary altar to your creative being.
(Repeat offenders get best results! These monthly workshops are designed cumulatively, to develop intimacy with yourself and generate deeper transformation over time. But don't worry if you can't make every one, and newcomers are always welcome.)
Kayla has guided over 1500 people to and through poetry, in classroom settings and as an individual mentor, for the last fifteen years, teaching and presenting in New York, LA, Ann Arbor, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, Vienna, Bordeaux, and Heidelberg.
She holds two writing degrees (BA, MFA) with a third in progress, a PhD at UC Santa Cruz researching contemplative poetics and mystical consciousness in John Ashbery, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Meister Eckhart.
Her own creative writing has been published by Tin House, the Berkeley Poetry Review, the Brooklyn Review, and elsewhere. Her poems have won the Academy of American Poets Prize and been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
A Del Mar native, Kayla currently camps out in Oakland.

The Sound Circ…
The Sound Circle, with Joana Ayala
September 22, 2023 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/705437180597?aff=oddtdtcreator
The Sound Circle
Our bodies and minds are under tremendous pressure in these uncertain times. Our own voices are becoming obscured and lost to the onslaught of an ever-increasing virtual world. What would happen if we let the “inner floodgates” open? What would happen if we allowed ourselves to surrender to the sound within? In the Sound Circle we come together and journey into the world of sound and voice through guided meditations, vocal practices, and group singing/toning. For this evening of restorative resonance, it doesn’t matter if you're a singer or novice. You don't need to be a pro to enjoy the vitality of your own voice.
As a certified sound practitioner, Joana Ayala completed her studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies in the Sound, Voice, and Music in The Healing Arts program. Her passion lies in creating spaces where sound becomes medicine and her own voice becomes a source of healing. Being a vocal artist, Joana weaves melodic and fluid vocalizations into ceremonial and therapeutic settings. Through her performances, she aims to cultivate an atmosphere of deep relaxation and transcendence, allowing participants to immerse themselves fully in the soundworld. For the past six years, Joana has played an integral role within the Bay Area wellness and transformational landscape. September 23, 2023 9:30 am - 10:45 am
Details and registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/yoga-at-alembic-1106959

The Four Immea…
The Four Immeasurables, with Jenny Terbell
September 25, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Underbelly: Th…
Underbelly: The Art of Slowing Down
September 25, 2023 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Waking Up in t…
Waking Up in the Middle of Everything, with Zachary Smith
September 25, 2023 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Mythic Fac…
The Mythic Face: Visionary Portraits in the Mische Technique w Krisztina L.
September 29, 2023 - October 1, 2023
Details and Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-mythic-face-visionary-portraits-in-the-mische-technique-w-krisztina-l-tickets-691156496687
Dates and Times
September 29, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
September 30, 10:00am - 6:00pm
October 1, 10:00am - 3:00pm
Visionary art, the art of visions, can be traced back to some of the first mark making found in caves throughout the world. It is an essential part of our nature to depict our inner realms and experiences so that others can both share in our interdimensional space as well as follow us there. “To discover and to portray our own living presence is a form of soul retrieval…We can see the inner nature apparent on the external features of the face. Self portraiture is the internally driven quest for self-knowledge,” to quote Alex Grey. Painting our self portrait, grounds us in our Selves and combining that with visionary content is a template for storytelling and building our own personal mythos.
The preferred technique of many of today’s and the last century’s top visionary artists, the Mische Technique is a layering of multiple mediums to create an image out of highlights rather than shadow. Krisztina Lazar specializes in a very specific version of the Mische Technique, which she has been teaching for 15 years.
This class is for beginners to advanced students alike. Whether you have never painted a face before or you paint portraits all the time but are new to the Mische Technique, there will be something for you in this class.
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED:
Everyone registered for the class will get a 16” x 20” canvas to paint on
Shared materials provided will be:
Titanium White casein
Palette paper
Liquin Original
Red Ochre Acrylic paint
Indian Yellow Acrylic paint
Light Blue acrylic paint
Extra paint brushes
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
Your own paintbrushes
Sizes you will need: At the minimum, please have a 0, 1, and 2 round, medium sized filbert, larger 2” flat brush. You can definitely bring more brushes than this. I highly recommend looking online or in a good art store like Blick for a set with this range of brushes if you don’t already have these. I also highly recommend not getting the cheapest ones. Always get the best art materials you can afford.
Your own oil paints:
A basic color palette should include: Titanium white, Mars Black, burnt umber, indian yellow, cadmium yellow, permanent rose, red ochre, prussian blue. The same goes for paints as for brushes. Do not get the cheapest ones. An affordable brand can be Windsor & Newton or even Gamblin artist’s series.
Reference material:
A picture of your face that you want to paint. Make sure the image is very clear and high res. You can print it out full size, bring it on a tablet or computer (ideal) or have it on your phone as a last resort.
The picture needs to be focused on the face and should include the neck and top of the shoulders
Optional:
Bring your own:
Titanium White casein, PLAKA in titanium white works as well
Palette paper
Liquin Original
Red Ochre Acrylic paint
Indian Yellow Acrylic paint
Light Blue acrylic paint

Music That Lis…
Music That Listens to Itself
September 29, 2023 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
REGISTER here for this event
Music That Listens to Itself
For this session of the Expanded Listening series, we’ll enjoy a program of ambient and ambient-adjacent music from around the world that employs techniques to not just slow but to even reverse and revisit time. From reverb to echo to tape loops to granular synthesis, various recording and performance practices give artists the means by which to examine the space within sound. We’ll listen to some of these artists as they explore what might be called the “poetics of the buffer”: the ability to capture sound, often in real time, and toy with it while it still lingers in the mind’s ear. This is music that listens to itself. Such recordings lend themselves readily to meditative states, to a consideration of music as a time-based art, and to an appreciation of the ways that numerous genres aspire to a state of utmost stillness. The evening will open with some framing comments from Marc Weidenbaum, a music critic and the moderator of the Disquiet Junto, a long-running online community for electronic musicians, some of whose compositions will be included.

Soul Writing: …
Soul Writing: Connecting to Essence with Joy Reichart
September 30, 2023 10:00 am - 3:30 pm
Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/676383440077?aff=oddtdtcreator
Do you have something to say but don’t think you can write?
Are you hoping to start or revive a writing practice?
Are you looking for a friendly community to support your creativity?
Get the words flowing in this intimate, welcoming workshop.
Writing can be a vehicle for us to connect with the essence of ourselves and the truth of our lives. This workshop gives you an opportunity to touch into this freeing possibility by providing:
- a warm space of welcome and non-judgment so that your voice can start to make its way out from wherever it’s been hiding, and/or unfold from whatever shape it has made to keep itself safe
- release from the echoes of all the teachers, editors, and critics (inner and outer) who have contributed to trimming your true expression—until, perhaps, you stopped writing altogether
- an escape hatch from your over-thinking brain by expressing (and surprising!) yourself from a place of deeper wisdom
- an ongoing practice you can use in any number of ways, whether it’s writing a bigger piece, working with others, or simply connecting with your true voice in new ways on a regular basis
- new companions in your journey of creativity and self-discovery
Format: We will write short pieces based on prompts, share our work, and have the opportunity to give one another sincere appreciation. It is amazing how deep the writing can go—and how quickly—in this kind of holding community.
We are here to practice, not produce. That said, many fully finished pieces are born of this process.
You don’t have to be a ‘writer’ already! No matter what kind of writer you think you are (including not a writer at all), no matter if you’ve only ever written emails, no matter what language you are most comfortable speaking and writing in, your voice has a place in this session. We look forward to hearing it.

About Joy
I’m Joy Reichart, a writer and coach who holds gentle space for genuine expression. I have yet to hear a newly birthed piece of honest writing that isn’t stunning.
In 2020 I gathered an intrepid group of folks and we began this practice of Soul Writing: reaching beyond our brains, our critics, and our fears, writing from a place of knowing, and offering unconditional welcome to the words that come through our friends. We are consistently wowed by each other’s honesty, vulnerability, and unique genius. The more we write and read, the more words arrive, and the braver we get. Who we really are blasts its way through all the ways we’ve twisted or shrunk or faked it or deluded ourselves.
The truth makes its way from our souls to the page. Every time. We discover we have things to say. We discover we are, indeed, writers.
My training in Integral Coaching, the martial art Aikido and personal energy work have grown a deep capacity in me to hold safe, sacred space for authentic unfoldment. I also lead energy workshops and offer personal coaching for folks wishing to align with their deepest longing, their most genuine expression. I live in Berkeley, CA with my husband and two hilarious chihuahuas.
